Juniper removal time has begun!
For those of you who are unaware juniper is known as the “green gasoline” and is a big no-no in fire country. Our clay soil is like butter right now and it’s the best time to remove it. Plus, since it’s burning season, it can be disposed of quickly on sight.
HERE ARE SOME JUINIPER REMOVAL TIPS:
- Don’t bother delimbing the juniper, get right into the roots with a Sawzall. Use a come-along or small truck to pull it out.
- If it’s providing hill stabilization replant with rock rose (Cistus)
- No need to haul away! Juniper will incinerate in a burn pile almost instantly. Just don’t throw in a bunch at one time though!
